Up close with Cricket’s giant Samsung Messager

By Chris Ziegler, Engadget

We got some video of the world’s largest functional cellphone (so says Guinness) in action, and apart from the three-second battery life, everything about this arrangement seems practical for retail sale (we kid — it’d take a grid of Prius battery packs to keep this thing alive). Go check out the massive mess of circuitry over on Engadget Mobile — or are those just tiny people? You decide!

World’s largest cell phone unveiled by Samsung in Chicago

Via, Iamrajendra

While other players are looking to take a few more millimeters off their handsets, Samsung has done a complete 360 and produced the world’s largest cell phone, which can be seen (and used for free) at Fidelity Plaza, Chicago. Modeled around the r450 Messager that saw a release last August, this is an attempt by Samsung in collaboration with Cricket to nab the largest “working” cell phone record in the Guiness Book of Records, which measures a ginormous 15 feet wide by 13 feet tall. Drop by and make a call for free on this giant if you are in the vicinity, as you may never get an opportunity to do it again.

Samsung quietly introduces Q2 digital media player

By Jenn K. Lee, Pocketables

Why is Samsung sneaking new products onto its website without telling anyone about them? Last week it was the less-than-thrilling Q1EX UMPC and today it’s the 8GB and 16GB Q2 (YP-Q2) digital media players.

Frankly, I’m not sure what Samsung was thinking with this one, as it’s basically nothing more than 1) a larger, higher capacity S3 with a 2.4-inch QVGA display or 2) a YP-Q1 in a different body. Other than a reported 50-hour audio battery life, I’m sorry to say that the Q2 doesn’t have much going for it.

Maybe that’s why Samsung is trying to keep it quiet. I only came across it today because I’m working on my Samsung P3 and Q1 reviews and went to check the company’s official US website for good measure. Instead of finding information about those players, I found the new and unreleased Q2 instead.
